About Us STEAMUP Academy is a dynamic educational institution committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Our programs are designed to spark curiosity and cultivate creativity in young learners through hands-on, engaging, and inclusive educational experiences. We are seeking an enthusiastic, full-time Middle School Teacher to guide our young adolescents ( Grades 6-8 ). You will lead intimate classrooms with small class sizes, ensuring every student receives personalized attention tailored to their unique pace, cognitive profile, and emerging academic interests during these crucial transitional years. Position Overview The Middle School Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering rigorous, content-specific lessons in an engaging, structured, and safe classroom environment. The successful candidate will integrate advanced, project-based STEAM learning into daily instruction to promote critical thinking, real-world problem-solving, and collaborative innovation.
Key Responsibilities Curriculum & Subject Delivery:
Plan, prepare, and deliver rigorous, content-specific lessons that align with Florida state academic standards and STEAMUP Academy's middle school curriculum.
Advanced STEAM Integration:
Design and implement hands-on, project-based STEAM activities that challenge students to apply design thinking, data analysis, and real-world problem-solving skills.
Classroom Culture & Accountability:
Create a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment that fosters student autonomy, mutual respect, and academic accountability.
Adolescent Development:
Support the unique social-emotional, cognitive, and identity development of middle school students through mentorship, restorative practices, and structured academic support.
Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction:
Utilize diverse formative and summative assessments to monitor student mastery, provide constructive feedback, and differentiate instruction for varied learning levels.
Parent Communication:
Maintain regular, proactive, and professional communication with parents and guardians regarding academic performance, behavior, and high school readiness; fluency in English is required, and proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Partner with department peers, specialists, and school leadership to support vertical alignment, cross-curricular learning, and school-wide STEAM initiatives.
Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain clear routines, high behavioral expectations, and organizational systems tailored to an active, collaborative adolescent classroom.
Professional Engagement:
Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, professional learning communities (PLCs), and school community events.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Middle School Education, Secondary Education, or a specific STEM/Arts discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Science, Engineering, English) is required.
Certification:
Valid Florida State Teaching Certification in a relevant middle school subject area (grades 5-9 or 6-12) is highly preferred, or eligibility for certification.
Experience:
Minimum of one to two years of teaching experience in a middle school setting (Grades 6-8) or secondary environment.
Language Skills:
Fluency in English is required. The ability to communicate in Spanish is desirable and considered a valuable asset for connecting with our diverse community.
STEAM Expertise:
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and lead complex, inquiry-based STEAM units, labs, and collaborative projects for adolescents. Experience or training in integrated STEAM education is highly preferred.
Classroom Management:
Exceptional classroom management skills with a proven ability to keep middle school students engaged, focused, and mutually respectful.
Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with a departmentalized teaching team and navigating parent-teacher dynamics.
Pedagogical Mindset:
Deep understanding of middle school pedagogy, including the ability to scaffold abstract concepts and foster critical thinking and independent research.
