Middle School Science Teacher

For 26/27 School Year Meyer Prep is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Middle School Science Teacher. The ideal candidate should hold a current Florida State Teaching Certificate for grades 5-9 and have experience working with middle school students. Strong skills in classroom management, behavior management, and communication are essential. The candidate must be open to participating in our MYP IB (Middle Years Programme International Baccalaureate), including required training. Subjects taught include Earth Science, Life Science, and an Introduction to Chemistry and Physics. The Science Teacher will be responsible for creating an active, engaging learning environment that fosters a love of science. This includes using a variety of instructional strategies and incorporating hands-on labs to enhance student learning.

Responsibilities and Duties/ Essential Job Functions:

Set high academic standards for every student in class while still adapting to the individual needs of each student. Prepare lesson plans in advance that teach Meyer's LGIs (Learning Goal Indicators) for the corresponding subject. Teach classes the principles of life, earth, and physical science. Track and report performance data to determine where changes need to be made and which strategies and methods are working. Attend special events held by the school and engage with students and/or parents in an appropriate, friendly way. Attend work a maximum of eight working days prior to the commencement of classes and two administrative days following the conclusion of the spring semester of the school year. Adhere to all aspects of the Meyer Way! Participate in the ongoing curriculum development of Meyer School and attend all teacher meetings. Communicate with the parents of each student, as needed. Prepare and present regular oral and written reports to parents concerning their child's education and welfare, as needed. Maintain student and family confidentially both on and off the Posnack School campus. Performs other duties as may be deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the department. It is essential for the Employee to arrive on time to work every scheduled work day. It is essential for the Employee to maintain good attendance and give ample notice, when possible, when Employee will be absent. It is essential for Employee to speak to co-workers with respect and to follow all of the requirements and expectations in the Employee Handbook. Qualifications The Middle School Science Educator must have familiarity in life, earth and physical sciences. Must have valid FLDOE certification in Middle Grades Science (Grades 5-9), and be proficient in the use of instructional technology and online textbooks. Must have a bachelor's degree. Two years of teaching experience preferred. Salary based on experience. Utilizes the Clearinghouse for background check.
