Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Comply with all Health and Safety Standards, Abuse Laws, DCF Guideline and Community Haven policies and procedures
  • Instruct students who have various mental and physical disabilities that may impede learning, including autism, visual and hearing impairments and emotional disorders
  • Follow the Individual Education Program (IEP) set forth by the Director for each student
  • Maintain student and program confidentiality
  • Comply with all grant and contract standards
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain order among students. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Prepare for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
  • Instruct students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparation.
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory-and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
  • Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy. Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Confer with Director to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
  • Evaluates student progress in the instructional program by means that include the maintaining of up-to-date student data.
  • Maintains good relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Complies with established lines of authority. Orients and assists new staff and new students and provides opportunities for their input in the school program. Other duties as assigned Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited school
  • Pass a level II Background Screening and rescreening every five years
  • Ability to manage time wisely and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Must possess valid driver's license, have a safe driving records and proof of motor vehicle insurance

Full-time Pay:
$38,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
