Job Description Trinity Catholic School, a K-8 school located in Tallahassee, FL, is seeking a highly qualified Middle School Religion teacher for the 2026-27 school year. As an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) school, Trinity trains our educators in this prestigious framework of teaching and learning. We weave the IB MYP inquiry-based approach into our curriculum, allowing students to connect their faith to global contexts. A Catholic middle school religion teacher at Trinity serves as both an academic and ministerial leader for grades 6-8. Within our IB MYP framework, they design engaging theology curricula, foster spiritual and moral development, and act as a role model of Gospel values both in and out of the classroom. Essential Job Duties & Key Responsibilities:
IB MYP Curriculum & Instruction:
Plan and execute standards-based, age-appropriate lessons covering Scripture, Church history, Sacraments, moral theology, and Catholic Social Teaching. Develop, document, and submit unit plans and weekly lesson plans, including activities, consistent with Catholic diocese curriculum guidelines and IB MYP frameworks (including global contexts and key concepts) to motivate, challenge, and engage all students.
Faith & Retreats:
Create an environment that encourages discipleship and spiritual growth. Coordinate grade-level retreats and prayer services.
Liturgical Leadership:
Plan and participate in school-wide religious activities, including weekly Masses, holy days of obligation, and other liturgical ceremonies.
Values Modeling:
Model Catholic Christian living through words and actions, upholding the teachings of the Catholic Church. Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Church.
Community Engagement:
Maintain clear and effective communication with parents, parishes, and administration regarding student academic progress and spiritual formation. Respond to all parent communication in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner.
Classroom Management & Competence:
Demonstrate current, thorough knowledge of subject matter, and organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on tasks. Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and a positive self-image; manage student behavior effectively.
Supervision & Safety:
Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times to include arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, recess, lunch, etc.
Evaluation:
Develop and use effective methods of evaluation that are directly related to curriculum objectives and to concepts and skills taught; consistently and effectively evaluate student progress, updating the electronic grade book weekly.
Professional Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration. Participate in faculty meetings, retreats, school committees, and in-service learning opportunities. Actively participate in ongoing embedded professional development, IB MYP training, and professional learning communities.
Technology Integration:
Integrate Chromebooks and other technology effectively into a 21st-century classroom, as appropriate.
Professional Standards:
Maintain confidentiality of information, and display sound judgment in dress and general behavior in alignment with the mission of the school. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or a closely related field.
Certification:
Valid State of Florida teaching certification, preferred.
Faith Requirements:
Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, with a comprehensive knowledge of Catholic doctrine, a deep commitment to Catholic School education, and a commitment to personal faith life.
Experience:
Experience teaching middle school students, preferred. Experience in a Catholic School setting is preferred.
Soft Skills:
Strong classroom management, a deep understanding of adolescent social-emotional development, and the ability to connect faith to daily, modern life.
Technical Skills:
Must be comfortable with technology to include Chromebooks, Google apps, document cameras, etc.
