The GLOBE Academy is a K-8 charter school on two campuses that opened in 2013 and fosters Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education, serving students from all over DeKalb County, GA. Middle School 6-8 Language Arts Teacher Grades 6-8Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.- Ability to teach a standards-based curriculum, using a constructivist approach, including project-based and workshop learning frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to individualize instruction and work with a wide variety of student abilities and learning styles.
- Able to communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians, administrators, special education teachers, and other service providers regarding the instructional program and student progress.
- Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment
- Develop lesson plans utilizing a variety of instructional strategies to improve student achievement in a general curriculum; identify instructional materials; assess equipment needs to augment instruction; maintain student data; and promote positive student behavior.
- Must have knowledge and experience in differentiating instruction and matching intervention to meet the individual needs of students
- Participate in departmental meetings and professional learning activities.
- Be willing to teach enrichment classes, if asked, as part of the teaching load.
- Experience with online learning
- Familiarity with the Responsive Classroom model of community building a plus
- Knowledge or proficiency in speaking Mandarin, French, or Spanish is a plus Qualifications
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in relevant field
- Certificate from Georgia Professional Standards Certification (GaPSC) or will receive certification within three (3) years from hire date
- Additional endorsements/certifications (Reading, Gifted, ESOL, Special Education) are a plus and preference will be given to such candidates should they meet other important criteria and be a cultural fit with the school.
- Minimum of two years' teaching experience with middle grades is preferred.
