Bergman Academy invites passionate, innovative educators to apply for a Middle School teaching position for the 2026-2027 academic year. About Bergman Academy Nestled in the heart of the scenic Greenwood and Ashworth Parks in Des Moines, Iowa, Bergman Academy is an independently accredited, state-recognized, secular school serving preschool through 8th grade. Position Overview Middle school teachers lead classes of approximately 16 students, building strong relationships and tailoring instruction to meet individual needs. Teachers collaborate closely with colleagues across disciplines, participate actively in division meetings and school life, and inspire students to grow both academically and personally. The ideal candidate understands and appreciates the unique developmental needs of middle school students and is excited to foster independence, confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking in young adolescents. This position is for a middle school teacher who is comfortable teaching across multiple subject areas, with a preference for candidates who have a strong background or interest in mathematics. Flexibility and collaboration are essential. Key Responsibilities Deliver inquiry-based, differentiated instruction aligned with division curricula Foster a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and being curious Build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues Communicate thoughtfully and effectively in both written and verbal form Collaborate flexibly with teaching colleagues and specialists Design creative ways to make learning visible and engaging Contribute positively to school culture and participate in school events Perform community responsibilities such as lunch/recess supervision and carline support
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Hold at minimum a bachelor's degree in education Demonstrate strong content knowledge and a passion for teaching middle school students Have experience planning and facilitating differentiated instruction Possess a growth mindset, resilience, flexibility, and a sense of humor Prioritize relationships and community-building Desire an environment that challenges, supports, and expects each member of the community to reach their potential- including both students and teachers Find joy engaging with learners of all ages and their families Why Bergman?
