Job Description
Summary South Hills Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team as a full-time 8th Grade Science Teacher. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging lessons in scientific concepts, fostering a love for exploration and inquiry. This position requires a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and collaboration among students. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive 8th-grade science curriculum aligned with state and national standards. Create engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities, experiments, and technology to enhance student learning. Assess and evaluate student progress through various methods, including tests, projects, and classroom participation. Provide individualized support and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students. Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student engagement, curiosity, and respect for one another. Collaborate with fellow educators, staff, and parents to support student success and well-being. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and advancements in science education. Supervise and engage students during lunch, recess, and other school activities as needed. Contribute to the school community through involvement in extracurricular activities, committees, and events. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Valid teaching certification in Middle School Science or equivalent. Experience teaching middle school students, particularly in a science-related subject, is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of scientific concepts and the ability to convey them effectively to students. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment. Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning. Commitment to fostering a growth mindset and encouraging a love of learning in students. Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and engage in continuous professional development. Employment is contingent upon board approval and successful completion of federal background check and drug-free workplace pre-employment screening.
