Job Description

Bernard Zell, located on the North side of Chicago, is looking for an experienced, creative, and passionate Hebrew Language and Judaic Studies educator to bring knowledge and love of Judaism, Hebrew language, Israel, and Jewish values to middle school students through innovative, relational teaching. You'll work across grades and disciplines alongside an exceptional team of faculty and staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach Hebrew Language and Jewish Studies to middle school students Create a rich Jewish cultural and Hebrew language environment in the classroom Teach Tefilah in alignment with school philosophy and desired outcomes Introduce students to contemporary Israeli culture and traditional and innovative holiday and Shabbat rituals and practices Foster the joy of learning and contribute to a spirited Jewish life across the school Use formative and summative assessments to monitor and evaluate student progress and provide specific, growth-oriented feedback Work on an advisory team, plan advisory learning, and create a safe, nurturing environment for students Advise and advocate for a group of middle school students with responsibility for academic, social, and emotional oversight Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and grade-level team members Help lead service learning through the advisory program Support curriculum development and participate in professional development and teacher training Faculty Values — Jewish Values

  • Student-Centered Growth Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent; Master's degree preferred Coursework or experience in Jewish Studies content (Hebrew Language, Bible, Jewish History, etc.
) Informal Jewish education/camp experience is desirable Minimum three years of Jewish day school teaching experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Hebrew and English fluency (speaking, reading, and writing) required Experience teaching Hebrew as a second language strongly preferred Knowledge of a wide range of language instruction and Judaic resource methods and materials Familiarity with Responsive Classroom preferred Compensation The salary range for this position is $56,466 - $85,520 Bernard Zell offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your whole life — including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, a Health Care FSA, Transportation and Parking benefit, paid parental and adoption leave, paid time off, tuition remission, and breakfast and lunch when school is in session.
