Full Job Description Job Description:
Decatur Middle School is seeking a dynamic Introduction to Computer Science teacher who will deliver instruction aligned to Indiana's Course 4565 standards, providing students with foundational knowledge in computer science, including problem-solving, programming, data analysis, networks, and the ethical use of technology. This course is designed to engage all students, regardless of prior experience, in computational thinking and modern technology fluency.Job Qualifications/Requirements:
Indiana Teaching License (5-12) with at least one of the following: Computer Science Business Education (with appropriate computer science coursework) Technology Education (with demonstrated proficiency in computer science) Proficiency in teaching introductory programming languages (such as Python, JavaScript, or Scratch). Familiarity with Indiana's Computer Science Standards. Strong classroom management, communication, and instructional planning skills. Experience with or willingness to learn PLTW Computer Science Principles or Code.org CS Discoveries is preferred.Educational Responsibilities:
Teach the 4565 Introduction to Computer Science course in alignment with IDOE standards. Design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons in programming, algorithms, computer systems, and data representation. Foster computational thinking and real-world problem-solving skills. Integrate project-based learning and hands-on activities using appropriate technology and software tools. Promote ethical computing practices and digital citizenship. Support all students in meeting learning outcomes, including differentiated instruction and interventions. Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with families. Contribute to the school and district computer science pathways and support career exploration in tech fields. Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports a diverse group of learners. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, cultural, and linguistic needs of students. Integrate technology, real-world applications, and cultural content into instruction. Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with families. Participate in school-wide professional learning communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and professional development opportunities. Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and school initiatives. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.Additional Duties :
