Job Title:

High School Personalized Learning Time (PLT) Instructor

Position Overview:

The High School Personalized Learning Time (PLT) Instructor supports students in managing their academic responsibilities, setting and achieving personal learning goals, and developing essential skills such as time management, self-advocacy, and critical thinking. The PLT Instructor creates a structured and supportive environment where students engage in individualized learning pathways during designated PLT sessions. This role is key to promoting student ownership of learning and ensuring academic success through targeted coaching and support.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate PLT Sessions:

Lead structured Personalized Learning Time periods where students work independently or in small groups on self-directed learning tasks.

Support Goal-Setting:

Guide students in setting, tracking, and reflecting on academic and personal goals using school-approved tools or digital platforms.

Provide Academic Coaching:

Offer individualized academic support and study strategies to help students succeed in their coursework.

Monitor Student Progress:

Use data from learning platforms, teacher input, and formative assessments to identify students in need of support or intervention. Collaborate with

Educators:

Work closely with teachers, advisors, counselors, and administrators to coordinate student support and ensure alignment with instructional goals.

Promote Executive Functioning Skills:

Teach and reinforce strategies for time management, task prioritization, organization, and self-monitoring.

Build Positive Relationships:

Cultivate a supportive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages student engagement and accountability. Communicate with

Families:

Provide regular updates to families about student progress and offer resources to support learning at home when needed.

Qualifications:

Hold a valid Kansas Emergency Substitute Teaching License (required) Minimum of 60 college credit hours from a regionally accredited institution (required for license) Strong interest in supporting high school student success and growth Ability to mentor and motivate students with varying academic needs and interests Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Proficient with or willing to learn digital learning tools and platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Summit Learning, Khan Academy, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience working in an educational setting, particularly at the middle or high school level Experience with personalized, blended, or mastery-based learning models Background in tutoring, academic coaching, advising, or youth development Teaching certification or degree in education (preferred, but not required) Bilingual or multilingual abilities (a plus)

Terms of Employment:

Salary:

$35,000 annually

Work Schedule:

Eight hours daily, with a 30-minute lunch break

Timekeeping:

Use the district's time management system to clock in/out each day

Contract Days:

Same report dates as USD 480 teachers (currently 178 student contact days)

Fringe Benefits:

Instructional Assistance and Duties:

Student Contact Days:

Assist supervising teacher with classroom management tasks such as attendance, record-keeping, grading, and entering grades Supervise students during PLT to ensure procedures and expectations are followed Provide academic intervention and support, as needed Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and instructional coaching opportunities Serve as a homeroom mentor for an assigned group of students Work Days (Non-Student Contact): Assist with planning, preparation, and lesson support Complete administrative and classroom support duties as assigned

Professional Development Days:

Attend district or school-sponsored professional development sessions Utilize designated time to develop and plan for the implementation of new instructional strategies Other duties as assigned Physical Requirements /

Environmental Conditions:

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated by building administration in accordance with Board of Education policy and state regulations
