Job Description

Position Overview The 7th Grade Language Arts Teacher will provide high-quality instruction focused on the "Composition" and "Language" strands of the Kentucky Academic Standards. This role requires an educator who can navigate the "Middle School Transition," turning early adolescents into sophisticated writers and analytical thinkers. Because 7th grade is a pivotal year for social-emotional development, exceptional classroom management skills are a non-negotiable requirement for this position. Key Responsibilities 1.
Instructional Excellence:
Composition & Language Mode-Specific Writing:
Lead students through the three primary modes of writing required by
KAS:
Argumentative, Informative/Explanatory, and Narrative .
The Writing Process:
Teach the recursive process of planning, drafting, revising, and editing, with a heavy emphasis on using technology to produce and publish writing.
Language Mechanics:
Explicitly teach 7th-grade language standards, including the use of phrases/clauses to create sentence variety and the mastery of coordinate adjectives.
Evidence-Based Claims:
Train students to cite relevant textual evidence to support analysis of what a text says explicitly and to support logical inferences. 2.
Elite Classroom Management Consistency & Structure:
Develop and maintain a highly structured classroom environment with clear routines that minimize downtime and behavioral disruptions.
Behavioral Leadership:
Implement proactive management strategies that foster a culture of mutual respect, high expectations, and intellectual safety.
Engagement:
Utilize "active learning" techniques to keep 7th-grade students engaged, effectively managing the high energy and social nature of this specific age group. 3.
Assessment & Data Formative & Summative:
Use diverse assessment tools to monitor student growth in writing stamina and grammatical precision.
Feedback:
Provide timely, actionable feedback on student compositions, moving beyond "grading" to "coaching" the writer.
KSA Preparation:
Align classroom assessments with the rigor of the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) to ensure students are prepared for state-level accountability.
Qualifications Certification:
Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate for Middle School English/Language Arts (Grades 5-9) or Secondary English (8-12).
Experience:
Proven track record of managing a diverse middle school classroom effectively.
Expertise:
Deep familiarity with the Kentucky Academic Standards and the ability to deconstruct complex standards into student-friendly learning targets. Professional Expectations Participate in Grade-Level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student writing data. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavioral triumphs/challenges. Commitment to the "Whole Child," supporting the social and emotional growth of 7th graders.
