Job Description

Steps to Success (Steps) is hiring a Teacher for its Summer Connections youth internship program in Brookline, MA. We seek a strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized leader who will make an excellent role model for young people and create a hands-on, fun, and structured learning environment. The Summer Connections class, taking place in the afternoon at one of the Brookline High School locations, is a complement to separate internships or classes that participating students take part in during the morning. During the class, a maximum of 32 students separated into 3 classrooms will engage in a digital media service-learning curriculum developed by our partner organization Brookline Interactive Group. The Summer Connections Teacher is a part-time position (15 hours/week, including 7 hours per week of meeting and planning time). This person needs to be available for the training session (4 hours total) on Monday June 29th, 2026 , and then during the program, which runs Monday July 6th, 2026 - Thursday July 30th, 2026 . The teacher is required to be onsite from 12:00- 3:00 pm (Mondays-Thursdays only). Program Outcomes As a result of gaining initial exposure to professional environments and processes, students will strengthen their relationships with adults (e.g. co-workers) Students will demonstrate mastery of basic digital media and technology skills Students will demonstrate perseverance, by articulating and tracking a goal for themselves beyond high school Duties Learn, tailor, and implement a Digital Media four-week curriculum, with training and support from curriculum creators at Brookline Interactive Group (BIG). The curriculum addresses the following topics: Post Secondary Planning, Persuasive writing/speaking skills in order to craft a compelling Public Service Announcement, Digital literacy skills. Participate in all activities with student group, serving as a role model to students by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct and professionalism Manage the classroom in a way that prioritizes the safety of students, and promotes learning and teamwork Perform administrative duties such as daily attendance, data collection/reporting, etc. Oversee support staff in the room: high school interns and/or AmeriCorps volunteers Attend a (4-hour) training on Monday June 29th, 2026, and weekly meetings while the program is running. Communicate regularly with PSB Advisors, Steps Director of Elementary and Middle school Programs, and parents Qualifications Experienced teacher/leader with a minimum of 2 years experience in diverse classrooms, after-school, camp, and/or residential settings. A teaching certificate and/or Masters degree in a related field is strongly preferred but not required. Experience with students in the middle school age range is preferred. Strong program planning/curriculum development skills. Proven classroom management skills, with the ability to flexibly and creatively engage students in a summer program setting.
