Job Description

High School Cognitively Impaired (CI) Regional Program Teacher Position Summary Reeths-Puffer is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly qualified teacher for the High School Cognitively Impaired (CI) Regional Program. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction and support for students with cognitive impairments in a structured and supportive educational environment. The teacher will collaborate with staff, families, and community agencies to promote academic, functional, behavioral, social-emotional, and independent living skills for students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations. Provide direct instruction in academic, functional life skills, communication, vocational, and social-emotional areas. Differentiate instruction to meet the individual learning needs of students with cognitive impairments. Utilize evidence-based instructional practices, behavioral supports, and assistive technology as appropriate. Collect and maintain accurate student data, progress monitoring, and documentation related to IEP goals and objectives. Collaborate with general education staff, related service providers, families, and outside agencies to support student success. Maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment. Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals and support staff assigned to the program. Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, staff meetings, and required trainings. Support transition planning and post-secondary readiness for students. Complete targeted-case management responsibilities for Medicaid billing on a monthly basis. Qualifications Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement required. Approval to teach students with Cognitive Impairments preferred. Experience working with students with cognitive impairments and diverse learning needs preferred. Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance requirements. Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with behavior intervention strategies and positive behavioral supports. Experience developing transition and vocational programming for high school students. Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive curriculum resources. Physical Requirements Ability to assist students with mobility, personal care, and daily living skills as needed. Ability to lift, move, or assist students, when necessary, in accordance with district guidelines. Ability to safely respond to behavioral or emergency situations.
