Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Special Education preferred Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement(s) State approval as a Teacher Consultant, or ability to obtain approval Minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory teaching experience, including at least two (2) years teaching students with disabilities Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA Demonstrated expertise in co-teaching, consultation, and inclusive instructional practices Strong organizational, case management, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, work with minimal supervision, and maintain emotional stability Proficiency in Schoology, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and student information systems such as MiSTAR Able to effectively teach all students consistent with IEP Able to design and deliver quality instruction to all types of learning situations and to students of all ability levels Sensitivity to the unique needs of students - able to differentiate instruction Commitment and ability to meet a wide range of student needs Effective classroom management techniques for working with students Ability to work in a team setting, collaborating with staff, administration and parents Ability to effectively work with children and adults from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds Ability to effectively plan and deliver quality instruction in-person and/or virtually, as needed Proficient user of current forms of instructional and adaptive technology Effective use of performance data to guide instruction Sound understanding and use of formative assessment techniques Willingness to learn new concepts and strategies, commitment to continuous improvement Understanding of effective methods of MTSS and PBIS implementationTYPICAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Convene, chair, and facilitate IEP team meetings in compliance with IDEA and MARSE; develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and specially designed instruction aligned to individual student needs Coordinate and oversee special education compliance processes, including REEDs, METs, IEPs, FBAs, BIPs, Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs), and Transition Plans Participate as a multidisciplinary team member in initial evaluations and reevaluations; administer, score, and interpret comprehensive achievement assessments for annual and three-year reviews Analyze evaluation and progress-monitoring data to support eligibility determinations, data-based Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) decisions, and planning for movement toward less restrictive environments when appropriate Collaborate with school social worker on the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) using culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based practices Assess student achievement and instructional needs using multiple measures; apply data-driven decision-making and formative assessment to plan, adjust, and improve instruction Apply current instructional methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated strategies to support diverse learners in inclusive educational settings Provide consultation, facilitation, and coordination to students, families, and staff through MTSS, evaluation, and IEP processes Collaborate with general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, counselors, and administrators to support instructional, behavioral, and transition programming Support the development and alignment of Personal Curriculums (PCs) and Educational Development Plans (EDPs) with transition planning, postsecondary goals, and documented IEP needs Develop and support programs that include academic instruction, career and job readiness activities, small-group instruction, and individualized community-based access experiences; collaborate with community agencies as well as CTE programs as appropriate. Establish and maintain effective communication with parents/guardians, staff, administrators, and outside agencies regarding student needs, programming options and agency supports. Participate, as assigned, in district and constituent district meetings, professional learning, school improvement initiatives, and planning committees Coordinate, collaborate and oversee necessary preparation for students requiring accommodations for State Testing. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation and records in accordance with district policies, procedures, and IDEA requirements Collaboration and coordination with ancillary staff, support staff and administration to meet a range of needs for each student, including behavioral supports, medical plans, and related services Accurately meets all mandated special education documentation and reporting in a timely manner Contributes and participates in efforts related to school and district goals Takes direction from the building and District administration Maintains regular and consistent attendance Performs other relevant duties as assigned by administrationMETHOD OF APPLICATION
