About the Job This is an in-person teaching position at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, West Bank campus. Classes are held Tuesday through Thursday, during the daytime, from June 23, 2026, to July 16, 2026. Course lengths may vary-ranging from one week to multiple weeks or the full four-week session-depending on the subject area and instructor availability. Training will be provided prior to the start date. Additional opportunities to participate in other parts of the summer program may also be available (June 8, 2026•July 24, 2026). We are looking for instructors to teach to varying high school grade levels for one or more classes in the following subjects: High School English (reading, writing, and literature)
High School Math (e.g., Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus)
Foreign Language:
Korean, American Sign LanguageElective Courses:
Leadership Development, Creative Arts, Computer Science, History, Financial Literacy, etc. •If applying, please indicate in your application which subject(s) you are interested in teaching•The summer program is an exciting opportunity for approximately 40 high school students to experience college life by taking classes and living in the residence halls. Each summer, a small cohort of teachers are hired to offer courses that inspire students, encourage life-long learning, and create bridges between high school and higher-education scholarship. Our program seeks motivated and caring teachers who are willing to facilitate meaningful courses, and develop out-of-the-box curriculum within their area of interest and expertise.Description of Responsibilities:
Plan and facilitate curriculum in one of the core subjects (Math, English, Foreign Language) and/or elective classes such as Creative Arts, Computer Science, History, Financial Literacy, etc. Prepare and document lesson plans and teach Tuesday•Thursday in a classroom at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities during program dates (Session 1, Session 2, or both) Create activity materials and resource lists for purchase Assess student learning and inform UB staff of student academic concerns and areas for improvement Attend staff orientation Attend weekly staff check-ins Complete a course and program evaluation at the conclusion of session Other duties as assigned byProgram Director Location:

June 8, 2026•July 24, 2026 (see specifics below) •We are working to attract experienced high school teachers to teach our TRIO Upward Bound participants. This rate represents the mid-range salary.Staff Schedule, Orientation & Training:
Up to two hours of paid training prior to starting. This will be scheduled individually depending on when the course will be taught, it will take place during the week of June 8•June 12th when possible for program and candidate. Additional paid time for curriculum development and preparation will be provided.Teaching:
Classes are taught Tuesday•Thursday from June 23, 2026•July 16, 2026 during the day. Classes span a week, multiple weeks or the full five weeks, depending on content area and availability.Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Curious, interested in learning, and willingness to try new things Experienced and finds value in working with high school students of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds including first-generation and low-income Experience creating and implementing course curriculum that is both rigorous, intellectually stimulating and enjoyable for students who possess a broad range of ability levels Experience in effective classroom, learning or workshop management strategies Per University of Minnesota Safety of Minors policy, applicants must pass a background checkPreferred Qualifications:
Core Courses:
Degree in Teaching/Education, Minnesota Secondary teaching license, and/or equivalent life experienceElective Courses:
Teacher in training and/or equivalent expertise/experience Past experience working with and/or participating in a program that serves underserved youth Experience working with the Duluth or Minneapolis Public Schools Experience working with TRIO programs Ability to connect with and motivate high school students Ability to work independently without supervision About the Department The TRIO Upward Bound program is a federally funded college preparatory program for low-income and first-generation high school students that serves a total of 135 students in four high schools in Minneapolis, Minnesota and one in Duluth, Minnesota. The Upward Bound program works with students, parents, schools and the community to develop partnerships and provide services and support that promote participant success. Services are offered on site in the target schools and are designed to prepare students to succeed in applying for, and finishing postsecondary education.Pay and Benefits Pay Range:
$30.00 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
