education curriculum Teaching science Communication skills Entry level Camp Full Job Description Position Summary The STEM Counselor supports the daily operations of the summer program's STEM enrichment activities. This role leads hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math projects; supervises campers; ensures safety; and creates an engaging learning environment. The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, and comfortable facilitating experiments, problem-solving challenges, and maker-style activities for elementary-age children. Key Responsibilities STEM Programming & Instruction Lead daily STEM lessons, experiments, and activities following the program's curriculum and schedule. Set up and break down materials for each activity; ensure all equipment is used safely. Guide campers through project-based learning, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Adapt activities as needed based on camper age, ability, and engagement. Support special STEM event days such as robotics challenges, science fairs, or engineering competitions. Camper Supervision & Safety Maintain active supervision of all campers during STEM sessions, transitions, and daily routines. Promote a positive, inclusive environment that supports campers of all backgrounds and learning styles. Uphold all safety guidelines, including chemical/material handling, equipment use, and emergency procedures. Immediately report safety concerns, incidents, or behavioral issues to leadership. Program Operations & Teamwork Collaborate with counselors and leadership to ensure smooth daily operations. Assist with daily attendance, material inventory, and classroom organization. Communicate proactively with the Program Director regarding supply needs, lesson success, or adjustments. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions. Support general camp activities when needed (arrival/dismissal, lunch, transitions, field trips). Camper Experience & Culture Build meaningful and positive relationships with campers to encourage confidence and enthusiasm. Reinforce program values of respect, teamwork, creativity, and resilience. Provide positive redirection, conflict resolution, and emotional support when challenges arise. Encourage leadership, curiosity, and problem-solving through hands-on learning. Qualifications Experience working with children in a camp, school, after-school, or enrichment setting. Comfort with basic STEM concepts and hands-on project facilitation (training provided). Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate groups of children. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Must be reliable, punctual, and proactive. CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Background check required. Schedule & Compensation Seasonal summer role; typically Monday-Friday. Hours may vary based on program schedule (e.g., 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM). Additional hours available for special events or extended-day programming. Compensation based on experience and credentials. Physical Requirements Ability to move between indoor/outdoor spaces, carry materials, and stand for extended periods. Ability to participate in active camp settings, including bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and engaging with children at their level.Job Type:
