The ideal candidate has the fun and enthusiasm of a great camp counselor with the judgment and consistency of a teacher. You enjoy building relationships with children, are comfortable spending much of the afternoon outdoors, and can transition seamlessly indoors when the weather changes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone pursuing a career in education. We provide ongoing mentorship in child development, behavior management, activity planning, and creating an environment where children feel safe, connected, and excited to come each day. What You'll Do Children & Community Greet children as they arrive from school and help them transition into the afternoon. Build strong relationships with children and create a welcoming, inclusive environment. Encourage kindness, cooperation, and independence while helping children navigate friendships and everyday challenges. Be a positive, engaged presence throughout the afternoon. Daily Program Check children in each afternoon and support a smooth arrival. Serve afternoon snack and help keep the space organized. Supervise children indoors and outdoors, maintaining strong awareness and active engagement at all times. Introduce games, activities, and creative opportunities that encourage children to stay active, connected, and engaged. Support children's own ideas and projects, knowing when to guide and when to step back. Help prepare the space for pickup and ensure every child is dismissed safely. Supervision & Safety Read the group and recognize situations before they become problems. Set clear expectations while maintaining a warm, approachable presence. Redirect behavior calmly and consistently. Maintain a safe environment indoors and outdoors throughout the afternoon. Planning & Collaboration Come prepared with simple activities, games, or seasonal ideas. Collaborate with your supervisor and teammates to create engaging afternoons. Participate in GaragePod's monthly Kids Night Out event. Attend monthly staff meetings. Participate in ongoing mentorship and professional development. What We're Looking For Experience working with elementary-aged children through after-school programs, camps, recreation, classrooms, or similar settings. An interest in education, child development, psychology, recreation, or a related field. Someone studying to become a teacher or beginning a career in education is encouraged to apply. The energy and enthusiasm of a great camp counselor with the judgment and consistency of a teacher. Comfortable spending much of the afternoon outdoors throughout the school year while remaining flexible indoors when the weather changes. Strong awareness, good judgment, and the ability to anticipate children's needs. Warm, dependable, organized, and eager to learn. Open to feedback and excited to grow through mentorship. Bachelor's degree preferred; candidates currently pursuing a degree are encouraged to apply.
