We are looking for college students and emerging educators to serve as group leader's ready to show up for Brooklyn's kids in a meaningful way. Group Leaders are the daily magic-makers of the Samfely program - they provide personalized academic tutoring and create novel, joyful learning experiences for K-5 students. Mentored & supported by our Content & Activity Specialist, this position is perfect for college students in humanities, education, youth development, social work, or any field who want hands-on experience instructing and mentoring children. It offers a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working flexible hours that fit your schedule.
Schedule :
Monday-Friday availability. Exact hours vary by location, between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Duties Plan and facilitate interactive arts, literacy, or humanities based activities & tailored to various age groups, ensuring they are engaging, educational, and promote SEL based programming Collaborate with the Content Specialist to ensure enrichment activities align with semester learning goals and student safety Create inclusive, student-centered experiences that give every child a chance to lead, explore, and shine Manage classroom environments effectively by implementing behavior management strategies and maintaining a positive atmosphere Take student attendance and responsibly supervise snack-time and dismissal for your assigned group of students; Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times, including basic first aid procedures and emergency response readiness Collaborate with parents, guardians, and fellow educators to track student progress and provide updates on their development Assist in organizing events or workshops that promote hands-on learning experiences in science and technology Who You Are A college student or emerging educator with a genuine love for working with children Creative, curious, and excited to bring your own ideas into a program that values them Patient, warm, and consistent — kids notice who shows up for them A self-starter who takes initiative and sees this role as a chance to make a difference in a child's day Qualifications High school diploma required; 1 year of prior experience working directly with students or in a group setting Mandated Reporter and CPR training (or ability to obtain before start date) Committed to inclusive, culturally responsive instruction College coursework in the areas of education, youth development, or a related field; Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Experience Prior experience working with children or in educational settings such as daycare, preschool, or after-school programs Experience in tutoring or teaching ELA subjects is highly desirable Knowledge of early childhood education principles and childhood development stages a plus Familiarity with behavior management techniques and special education accommodations is a plus Background in sports coaching, theater, babysitting, or camp leadership can enhance your ability to connect with children across diverse activities
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
