Summary:
The Religion Teacher fulfills the mission of Bishop Kearney by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of students within the framework of the school's philosophy, mission, and curriculum. The teacher creates a positive and engaging learning environment that supports the intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development of students while fostering a deeper understanding of faith, morality, service, and personal responsibility. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Teach Religion courses to middle school students in alignment with the school's curriculum and educational philosophy
  • Integrate Catholic teachings, values, traditions, and social responsibility into classroom instruction and student engagement
  • Develop and implement lesson plans utilizing curriculum maps, pacing guides, scope and sequence documents, and instructional resources
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including lectures, discussions, experiential learning, collaborative activities, and technology-based instruction
  • Foster meaningful classroom discussions that encourage critical thinking, ethical reflection, and respectful dialogue
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes spiritual growth, respect, inclusion, and academic achievement
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, backgrounds, and readiness levels of students
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate academic records
  • Maintain appropriate standards of student behavior and classroom management consistent with school expectations
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, host families, faculty, and administration regarding student progress and development
  • Participate in school liturgies, retreats, service opportunities, faith-based activities, and community-building events
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the mission and goals of Bishop Kearney High School
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as required
  • Serve as a positive role model for students through professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the mission of the school
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration
Qualifications:

Language Ability:
Ability to speak effectively before students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic software program functionality.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or related field preferred
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working in an independent, private, or faith-based school environment preferred
Certificates and Licenses:
  • Certification in subject area and grade level
  • Newly hired employees will have a background check completed
  • Required to completed Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Training and Van Safety Training.
  • Newly hired employees will be subject to an MVR check
