Job Description
Summary:
The School-Age Lead Teacher for summer program plans, implements, and supervises daily activities (arts & crafts, field trips, STEM) for children ages 5-12, ensuring a safe, stimulating environment. They lead a team, maintain parent communication, and uphold safety standards, focusing on theme-based or recreational programming.Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Curriculum Planning & Implementation- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for children ages 5-12 years, including engaging activites, arts and crafts and outdoor fun.
- Prepare and execute weekly lesson plans based on a weekly themes. Appropriate learning standards must be documented in the lesson plans.
- Be aware of and responsive to various ages, developmental levels, and interests of enrolled children when planning activities.
- Schedule field trips to provide unique experiences for children and enrich their learning experience.
- Modify activites based on children's Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and/or behavioral plans.
- Provide a variety of choices, experiences, and opportunities for all children. Behavior & Classroom Management
- Develop positive relationships with children and engage in meaningful interactions with them on a consistent and reuglar basis.
- Set rules and limits with all children and post in a prominent location.
- Establish discipline techniques that are firm, consistent, and fair to all children.
- Use positive approaches to help children behave constructively. Supervision & Safety
- Ensure the direct supervision and safety of children at all times, adhering to all OCFS health and safety guidelines as well as agency policies.
- Be aware of the number of children in care at all times Leadership & Communication
- Provide guidance, direction, and support on a regular and ongoing basis to facilitate smooth daily operations.
- Work cooperatively to assign duties and responsibilities of all staff.
- Communicate and work cooperatively as a team to promote the site in a positive fashion.
- Conduct classroom team meetings when necessary to identify problems and seek solutions.
- Actively involve and solicit input/ideas of assistant teacher(s) into program planning and development.
- Demonstrate characteristics of a positive role model. Family Engagement
- Maintain positive relationships with parents through daily check-ins and updates.
- Respond to questions, concerns, or complaints in a professional and timely manner; not in front of the children or when scheduled to be involved with the group.
- Insure strict confidentiality of any and all pertinent information concerning children and their families Environment Management
- Maintain an orderly, clean, and engaging classroom or outdoor space.
- Instruct the children regarding taking care of materials and equipment and putting items away. Assessment & Data Collection
- Observe and collect data through a variety of methods (e.g., survey, portfolio of children's work, KWL chart, etc.) to provide to grantors and other audiences to demonstrate children's learning and program effectivness. Record Keeping
- Maintain all required records such as attendance, meals, information on children's developmental progress, behavior, and any other pertintent information.
Qualification/Experience:
To be qualified as a group teacher for a school age class, a person must possess either: (i) an Associate's degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field. Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field is preferred. OR (ii) a School-age Child Care Credential, or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period; and one year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age; OR (iii) a High School Diploma or its equivalent; and two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.Specialized Training and Certificates:
- CPR certification preferred
- First aid certificatio preferred
- MAT certification preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.
Language & Written Expression Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulations, agency policies, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and curriculum guidelines. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to write out lesson plans. Ability to speak effectively before individuals and groups of children and with parents.Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Technology & Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know and be able to efficiently and effectively use Microsoft, Outlook, iPads, various educational platforms used for lesson planning and data collection, payroll systems, email software, and database software.Skills and Other Abilities:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed during challenging situations
- Ability to support children when their behaviors may be escalated
- Able to adapt to the immediate situation and change plans as needed
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and resolve conflict
