Job Description

Wellington is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking, and student-centered teacher of French and Latin. The successful candidate will have a love and passion for working with middle schoolers (grades 5 through 8) and supporting both their academic and social-emotional development. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to operate effectively in diverse environments, interact successfully with people from widely varying backgrounds, and employ culturally responsive pedagogy to create an inclusive and equitable classroom community. This position involves teaching 6th and 8th grade Latin along with some combination of 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade French depending on enrollment, serving as an advisor to middle school students, and contributing to a professional culture of care, collaboration, creativity, and collegiality. Key Responsibilities Deliver engaging and innovative instruction in Latin classes at the middle school level (grades 5 through 8). Serve as advisor to 10-15 middle school students and contribute to a grade-level team. Teach in the middle school Dive (elective) program and advise a middle school club. Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers of students and advisees to keep them aware of student progress. Actively participate in the school community, collaborating with colleagues and contributing to a positive and dynamic academic environment. Pursue and engage in ongoing professional development opportunities aligned with the school's mission and goals. Position Requirements Passion and enthusiasm for working with middle school students, with an emphasis on care, advocacy, and relationship building Experience in the classroom teaching Latin to middle school students Bachelor's and/or master's degree in Latin, Classics, Classical Languages, World Language Education, or a related field Understanding of child development and educational needs for students in grades 5 through 8 Advanced proficiency in Latin, with strong command of grammar, syntax, classical texts, and cultural studies Demonstrated experience in cultural competency in teaching practices. creating a positive and inclusive classroom culture in which students feel safe and supported. developing language proficiency appropriate to each discipline- reading, translation, and grammatical analysis facilitating engaging learning experiences that build language skills and cultural understandng of Roman culture, history, and mythology differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. assessing and documenting student growth through observations, record-keeping, and various formal assessments. planning and implementing an integrated curriculum using informed and innovative approaches.
