English Teacher, Middle School

We are seeking an English educator with depth and breadth of content expertise to team with our English Department and Middle School Academy Team to teach 6th- and 7th-grade English. Potential candidates must be prepared to work on grade-level teams; in particular, they must be enthusiastic about teaching middle school English. Applicants should have experience with student-centered educational practices, a broad array of assessment strategies, and be comfortable teaching learners at all levels. Applicants are expected to be proficient in various forms of communication and instructional technology and to have experience in service-oriented and project-based learning. Applicants will also be expected to be involved with co-curricular activities and/or mentoring students. A teacher in this role would be expected to design and implement multidimensional, collaborative, and differentiated learning experiences, while bringing an empathetic mindset to the learning process.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (required); B.A. in English preferred Master's Degree in English or Education (preferred) Certification in Secondary English (preferred) with the ability to teach multiple grade levels 3+ Years of teaching experience (preferred) Current (dated within a year) clearances (required)

Essential Duties:

Creates and implements highly innovative, well-prepared lesson plans for a balanced program of instruction, application, and class work activities within the English curriculum for all assigned classes Communicates student progress and class objectives to parents regularly Works with the Middle School Academy team on division initiatives and takes on both homeroom + Community Block sections Encouraged to participate in Student Life by moderating an extracurricular activity or coaching a sport Keeps students actively engaged in learning by regularly utilizing student-centered learning methods Designs, adapts, and delivers instruction to address each student's diverse learning strengths and needs, and creates opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in different ways Understands and values the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential to curricular design. Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards, acting as a role model Builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation with students and colleagues Utilizes student-centered learning as the primary learning methodology. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: helping students to deepen their understanding and to practice new skills by providing opportunities for them to actively engage with content designing learning experiences that call for high levels of collaboration, discussion, and interaction amongst students focusing on the individual through differentiation, scaffolding, and opportunity for choice utilizing multiple assessment techniques to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher's and learners' decision making
