Job Description

Willistown Friends Meeting, founded in 1798 and located in Newtown Square, is an active Quaker Meeting (Religious Society of Friends), with approximately 100 active members. The Sunday School program at Willistown Friends Meeting, known as First Day School, serves children ages three to nine during adult worship. The curriculum is focused on Quaker principles, practices, and history, as well as the Bible. The Meeting is seeking a First Day School Teacher to prepare and teach engaging, age-appropriate lessons, assisted most weeks by a Meeting member. The First Day School teacher will have access to a large collection of curricular materials and will receive guidance from and report to the Religious Education Committee.
Responsibilities:
Teaching First Day School/Supervising children Sunday mornings before and after First Day School from 9:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Prepare and maintain classroom and materials and, using Meeting-provided curriculum, will create and implement lessons based on Quaker values and testimonies such as peace, equality and community, as well as Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments. The teacher will be expected to participate in occasional additional Meeting programs when students are involved. Communication with parents as needed.

Qualifications:
Experience with a Religious Society of Friends community and/or First Day School is preferred Knowledge and experience working with a range of children aged three to nine, and broad understanding of developmental abilities and needs of those ages Knowledge of or willingness to learn about Quaker practices and beliefs Ability to adapt lessons to support children as their individual learning needs dictate Some experience in curriculum preparation and delivery Successful completion of all necessary background checks (Criminal Record Check paid for by Meeting)
