Job Description

Homeschool Teacher / Learning Facilitator West Covina, CA 91790 Full-time Full-time Job Overview We are a family with three children (ages 4, 6, and 8) transitioning to home-based learning and seeking a dedicated, creative educator to join us. Start date is flexible — as early as August 2026 or January 2027, depending on the right fit. About the Role This is a full-time, in-home position — not a tutoring gig. You'll be the primary learning facilitator for our household during school hours, guiding our children through a rich, structured-but-flexible day that blends focused academics with hands-on exploration. Our approach is inspired by the 2-Hour Learning / Alpha School model — a research-backed educational philosophy pioneered by Alpha School in Austin, TX.
The core idea:
Students can master core academics in as little as 2 focused hours per day using personalized, adaptive learning — often achieving results twice as fast as traditional schooling. The remaining school hours are spent on real-world projects, experiential exploration, creative problem-solving, and life skills — not sitting at a desk being lectured at. Think less "classroom," more "guided discovery." A Typical Day Might Look Like Focused academic block (reading, math, writing) — 2-3 hours, engaging and adaptive Spanish or Mandarin Chinese language integration Weekly field trips: museums, historical sites, science centers, nature Project-based learning, games, experiments, and exploration Outdoor time, creative play, and free inquiry
The Students Primary:
Two girls entering 2nd and 3rd grade (ages 6 and 8) Possible addition: younger sister, age 4 (pre-K level) Children are trilingual in English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese; Chinese supplemented via online tutors
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Afternoons (after 3 PM) handled by household staff for extracurricular activities No early mornings — children start at a natural, developmentally appropriate hour
What We're Looking For:
Genuine love of working with elementary-age children Belief in experiential, project-based, and self-directed learning — not lecture-based Comfortable designing and adapting curriculum week to week Organized and proactive — able to plan field trips, projects, and hands-on activities Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese proficiency strongly preferred Experience with homeschool, micro-school, or alternative education a plus CA teaching credential or education degree welcome but not required — we value philosophy and fit over paperwork Compensation Competitive full-time salary, commensurate with experience. How to Apply Please send to ella@ianlilaw.com : A brief introduction Your experience working with children Your philosophy on how kids learn best
Note:
Credential-heavy resumes without personality will go to the bottom of the pile.
