The successful Mandarin teacher at BA will lead our scholars to learn the language and culture through engaging activities, games, and crafts. We view learning a language as a social activity and want our scholars to see the power that communicating in another language gives them. Instruction will start in the lower grades with fun hands-on activities and lots of singing and playing in order to immerse our scholars into the Chinese culture and teach basic language components (greetings, family members, etc.) As we progress through the grades, we will move towards a rigorous language curriculum that emphasizes spoken language over written language and presents both traditional and simplified characters.
