Job Description
POSITION TITLE
After School CaregiverREPORTS TO
: Head of SchoolSCHEDULE
Typical Aftercare hours are 1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The After School Caregiver is expected to attend all faculty meetings and professional meetings according to scheduled times. The After School Caregiver is expected to attend all school events as determined by the Head of School.POSITION STATEMENT
The After School Caregiver supports the school community in providing a safe and nurturing environment to all students after the school day ends. The mission of all staff at HCMS is to work in cooperation with other Staff, Parents, Head of School and Board Members to create and sustain a positive school environment. The caregiver must act in accordance with Montessori philosophy, HCMS mission statement, HCMS Employee Policy Manual, Parent Policy Handbook and other written policies/procedures.REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent work experience;
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications and any other health requirements as required by Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) for licensing and certification;
- Must complete and pass a background check per 40 TAC Chapter 745, Subchapter F ;
- Submission of necessary personnel documents including, but not limited to, 3 references, diplomas, transcripts, criminal background check and fingerprinting and affidavit for employment with a child-care facility;
- Complete 15 hours of continuing education (CEUs) during the academic school year with a focus on targeted areas of growth;
- Employees working in the Toddler aftercare program must complete an additional 9 hours of professional development annually based on DFPS educational requirements;
- Demonstrate competence in written and oral communication.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: General- Arrive promptly daily to prepare for student arrival;
- Clean up aftercare areas (kitchen, bathroom, common areas) at the end of each day;
- Initiate activities with the children that are age appropriate providing a variety and range of complexity based on student population;
- Follow HCMS guidelines ensuring child safety (signing out students, checking identities, etc);
- Prepare afternoon snack for students;
- Assist children in physically transitioning from the school environment to after school environment which could include both indoor classroom and/or outdoor playground;
- Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times;
- Help maintain an environment that meets or exceeds state health, fire and childcare requirements;
- Participate in cultural activities and celebrations;
- Care and maintenance of classroom materials ensuring a clean and orderly environment both before arrival and after departure of children;
- Assist in deep cleaning at end of school year to close out classroom for the summer;
- Caregivers should be actively engaged with children while maintaining their role as supervisor of aftercare; The following tasks are expected of the

Sweep floors Clean kitchen (dishes washed/store unused food) Empty trash cans nightly Take trash to dumpster as needed Turn off lights and fans Lock windows and doors Wash table tops Stack chairs Store after care materials/supplies daily Professional- Phrase directives positively when guiding children;
- Assist parents with communications with school;
- Collaborate with staff and school leadership to ensure afterschool programs works within the general Montessori philosophy. Communication
- Report incidents involving injury of a child at once by completing an incident form and provide copy to parents for signature and a signed copy to Head of School;
- Help maintain a positive school environment through student, parent and staff relationships characterized by mutual respect and goodwill;
- Inform Head of School of child behavior issues for discussion with classroom teacher and/or parents;
- Notify Head of School immediately of personal or professional difficulties with children, parents or staff members.
