04/25/2023 PRIMARY PURPOSE Serve as a resident teacher while participating in a year-long clinical experience under the guidance of a mentor teacher. Observe and learn on the job in preparation for a teaching career while earning a degree or completing teacher certification requirements. Work alongside the assigned mentor teacher and actively engage in classroom instruction, planning, data review, and continuous improvement throughout the year.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
  • Enrolled in an educator preparation program and working toward a teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of subject matter related to classroom assignment
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with individuals from differing cultural backgrounds and experiences
  • Strong work ethic, openness to feedback, willingness to implement next steps, and belief that all students can achieve

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Strategies 1. Co-teach and deliver lessons prepared by the mentor teacher and instructional team. 2. Provide small- and large-group instruction under the direction of the mentor teacher. 3. Supervise student practice, projects, and digital learning activities while monitoring independent work. 4. Collaborate with the mentor teacher to monitor and improve instruction through assessments, grading, and data analysis. 5. Adapt and improve lesson plans that support differentiated instruction and student engagement. 6. Support instructional strategies that promote higher-order thinking skills and personalized learning. 7. Align lessons, activities, and assessments with district curriculum and high academic standards. Student Growth and Development 1. Identify and address students' social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. 2. Meet regularly with the mentor teacher to review instructional alignment and address student learning challenges. 3. Implement and recommend improvements to assessments used to measure student progress. Classroom Management and Organization 1. Manage classroom procedures and supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and instructional activities. 2. Identify and suggest ways to engage students in physical and virtual learning environments using technology. 3. Hold students accountable for measurable expectations related to behavior and engagement. 4. Contribute to a positive classroom culture built on respect, enthusiasm, and rapport. Communication 1. Receive and respond to feedback from the mentor teacher and site coordinator during observations and coaching sessions. 2. Co-plan instruction with the mentor teacher and instructional team. 3. Collaborate with grade-level or content-area team members. Professional Growth and Development 1. Attend required professional development before and throughout the school year. 2. Solicit and apply feedback from mentor teachers, principals, site coordinators, and team members to improve professional skills. 3. Participate in team planning, Professional Learning Communities, campus meetings, and training sessions.
