Job Description
STEM HIGH SCHOOL
Teacher (Part Time) 2026-2027 School Year Goal The STEM high school teacher will be responsible for teaching one section of Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) and two sections of Biology. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the high school program at The Westview School, working with students on the autism spectrum in a nurturing and supportive setting. The teacher will be expected to adapt lessons and teaching methods to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of our students, using evidence-based strategies to support academic achievement. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, STEM-related field, or a related discipline (Required) Texas Teacher Certification in Science (or eligibility to obtain certification in Texas). Experience working with students with autism or other developmental disabilities (preferred) Strong content knowledge of curriculum and teaching methods Ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including the use of accommodations and modifications Excellent communication skills, both with students and their families, as well as with the broader educational team Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive classroom that helps students develop academically, socially, and emotionally Preferred Skills Experience using assistive technology and digital tools to support students with autism Knowledge of social skills development and behavioral interventions Strong organizational and time-management skills to teach multiple subjects and support a classroom with diverse learners Enthusiasm for contributing to the growth and development ofThe Westview High School Key Responsibilities Teaching Integrated Physics and Chemistry:
Develop and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to support students in building a strong foundation in applied sciences. Emphasize problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world applicationsTeaching Biology:
Plan and teach Biology with a hands-on, inquiry-based approach, integrating lab work and real-life examples to make content accessible and meaningful for studentsIndividualized Instruction:
Tailor lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students, utilizing accommodations and modifications based on individual student needsBehavior Management:
Implement strategies to support students' behavior and emotional needs in the classroom, promoting positive interactions and a productive learning environmentCollaboration:
Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, administrators, and other content area teachers to create integrated learning experiences that support the holistic development of studentsAssessment and Reporting:
Regularly assess student progress using formative and summative assessments, and provide timely, constructive feedback. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about academic and social development.Professional Development:
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching students with autism and in STEM education.
