The Technology and Engineering Careers Teacher provides standards-aligned instruction to middle school students (grades 6-8) through the GO TEC (Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering Careers) program. Instruction emphasizes integrated STEM learning, career exploration, and development of the 5 C's (critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and citizenship) as outlined in the Profile of a Virginia Graduate. The teacher facilitates inquiry-based, project-based, and hands-on learning experiences that connect academic content to Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and high-demand careers in technology and engineering fields. Instruction supports student development of workplace readiness skills and awareness of postsecondary opportunities.Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Implementation Deliver GO TEC curriculum aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and CTE competencies, integrating science, mathematics, and technology concepts. Facilitate project-based and problem-based learning experiences that reflect real-world applications and industry practices. Incorporate engineering design processes, computational thinking, and applied technical skills into instruction. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and ensure equitable access to STEM opportunities. Integrate workplace readiness skills (e.g., teamwork, professionalism, problem-solving, and communication) into daily instruction. Student Engagement & Career Exploration Promote student understanding of career clusters and pathways, with emphasis on STEM-related and high-demand fields identified by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Support development of the 5 C's through collaborative and student-centered learning experiences. Guide students in making connections between middle school learning, high school CTE pathways, and postsecondary education or workforce opportunities. Foster curiosity, innovation, and ethical use of technology. Laboratory & Safety Management Maintain a safe and organized instructional environment aligned with VDOE safety guidelines for CTE laboratories. Provide explicit instruction in tool safety, digital citizenship, and responsible use of equipment. Manage and maintain GO TEC lab equipment and instructional materials. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with teachers, school counselors, and administrators to support academic and career planning for students. Participate in professional learning aligned with VDOE initiatives, including STEM integration and CTE best practices. Engage with GO TEC partners, local industry, and community stakeholders to support career-connected learning experiences. Support cross-curricular connections and interdisciplinary instruction. Assessment & Program Accountability Use formative and summative assessments, including performance-based assessments, to measure student learning. Monitor and document student progress in alignment with school and division expectations. Support program evaluation and continuous improvement aligned with state and division goals for STEM and CTE programs.Qualifications:
Required:
Must hold Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, STEM field or related discipline preferred Valid Virginia teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) (middle school endorsement) Demonstrated knowledge of instructional strategies aligned with VDOE standardsPreferred:
Endorsement or experience in STEM, Career and Technical Education (CTE), or Technology Education Experience with project-based learning, engineering design, or hands-on STEM instruction Familiarity with workplace readiness skills framework and career exploration modelsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Virginia's Profile of a Graduate and workplace readiness skills Ability to design and implement integrated STEM instruction Strong classroom management and facilitation of collaborative learning environments Ability to connect instruction to career pathways and real-world applications Commitment to equity, access, and inclusion in STEM educationWork Environment:
Instruction occurs in a classroom/laboratory setting with technology and technical equipment Requires supervision of students engaged in hands-on and lab-based activities Ongoing participation in professional development aligned with VDOE and GO TEC expectations performance standards required by the Code of Virginia.Position Type:
