Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION
In collaboration with the WMMS administrative team, this building-based position is responsible for supporting middle school teachers and advancing the instructional goals of William Monroe Middle School. The instructional coach provides embedded coaching, models effective instructional practices, and supports teachers through planning, co-teaching, reflection, and targeted professional learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Hold a valid Virginia Department of Education teaching license.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated successful instructional experience and the interpersonal skills necessary for working with staff, students, and families.
Preferred:
Five years of relevant teaching or coaching experience.
Alternative qualifications as approved by the Superintendent and School Board.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide instructional support to middle school teachers with a focus on improving student learning and instructional effectiveness.
Conduct frequent classroom visits to observe instruction, model lessons, co-teach, and provide actionable feedback.
Assist teachers with planning, classroom organization, and instructional materials aligned to school and division goals.
Analyze student data to support teachers and administrators in developing targeted intervention plans.
Build teacher capacity to meet diverse student needs through targeted resources, modeling, and ongoing coaching support.
Participate in and support departmental teams, including attending department meetings.
Lead and support professional learning aligned with WMMS instructional priorities.
Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen knowledge of instructional strategies, coaching practices, and adult learning theory.
Support teachers in integrating technology effectively into instruction.
Support the development of targeted intervention plans and resources in collaboration with the WMMS intervention team.
Provide consistent, embedded support for early-career teachers, reflecting the division's goal of "supporting Early Career Teachers with a greater day-to-day presence" .
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Duties are performed in typical school settings including classrooms, common areas, and meeting spaces. The position requires frequent walking, standing, and light lifting up to 40 pounds. Daily interaction with students, teachers, administrators, and families is expected.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated according to School Board policy and administrative regulations.
