Teacher - Middle School Language Arts and Theology Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond Virginia Beach, VA Job Details 1 day ago Qualifications Teaching Certification Engaging lesson design (student motivation techniques) Bachelor's degree Full Job Description We are currently seeking a qualified Middle School Language Arts and Theology Teacher to join our dedicated team at Star of the Sea Catholic School. The teacher's primary purpose is to develop and nurture the spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional growth of each student in the spirit of the Gospels and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT EXPECTATIONS
- The teacher is expected to: Maintain an equitable and challenging learning environment which ensures all students have sufficient opportunities to develop learning, thinking, and life skills that lead to success at the next level. Teach the Diocese of Richmond curriculum and deliver instruction for 21st century learning to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills to become creative, reflective, literate, critical, and moral evaluators, problem solvers, decision makers, and socially responsible global citizens. Maintain a supportive learning environment where learning activities are individualized for each student in a way that supports achievement and academic expectations. Implement classroom instruction that is designed to engage and motivate all students, addressing the diverse needs and capabilities of each student, and accommodating students with individual needs as fully as possible. Maintain an active learning environment which engages students in their learning through instructional strategies that ensure achievement of learning expectations. Use a variety of curriculum-based assessments aligned with learning outcomes and instructional practices to assess student learning including formative, summative, authentic performance and student self-assessment. Provide a learning environment which intentionally addresses the affective dimensions of learning, such as intellectual and social disposition, relationship building, and habits of the mind. Prepare students to become expert users of technology who are able to create, publish, and critique digital products that reflect their understanding of the content and their technology skills.
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
- The teacher is expected to: Collaborate in professional learning communities Participate in continuous professional development and necessary training, and maintain proper state of Virginia teaching licensure Maintain accurate and up-to-date/timely attendance records, grades, assignment feedback, student recommendations, and parent communications Model the mission and vision of the school and the Catholic Diocese of Richmond by enhancing the school and greater community and by participating in activities such as tutoring and extracurricular activities/clubs to ensure individual students are well known by school personnel Complete additional duties as assigned by the administration: yard duty, dismissal duties, etc. Use the lens of holy scripture and Catholic intellectual tradition in all subjects to cultivate cultural sensitivity and model Gospel values
QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold a bachelor's degree and current state of Virginia licensure, a provisional certificate from the state of Virginia, or a diocesan Certificate of Practice. Religion teachers must be registered, practicing Catholics in good standing.
