Job Description

Where childhood continues after the school day ends. Do you love building relationships with school-age children? Do you enjoy creativity, outdoor play, laughter and helping children unwind, connect and explore after a long day at school? First Roots•Wild Roots is seeking a warm, energetic and dependable Afterschool Teacher to join our nature-based afterschool program serving children up to age 8. This position begins on August 26, 2026 . This role is perfect for someone who enjoys creating meaningful connections with children while supporting a fun, safe and engaging environment during the afternoon hours. Our afterschool program is centered around movement, exploration, creativity, friendship and time outdoors. We're looking for someone who can step into the energy of the afternoon with patience, positivity and enthusiasm while helping children feel supported, welcomed and excited to be here. Schedule This position follows the Hinesburg Community School calendar .
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays:
2:30pm•5:30pm
Wednesdays:
1:30pm•5:30pm Potential for some full day mini-camps during Thanksgiving week and April break In addition, this team member is expected to attend all scheduled staff meetings, professional development opportunities and in-service days held by First Roots•Wild Roots. For the right candidate, full-time summer employment may also be available . What You'll Do Support school-age children through engaging afterschool experiences Help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment Supervise outdoor play, nature exploration and hands-on activities Support children with social-emotional growth, problem-solving and friendships Build positive relationships with children, families and coworkers Help children transition from the school day into a relaxed and connected afternoon Collaborate with teammates to maintain a strong and supportive program culture What We're Looking For Someone who is kind, dependable, patient and engaging A positive team player with strong communication skills Someone who enjoys being active, outdoors and involved with children Ability to create connection while maintaining structure and safety Previous experience working with children is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person Why First Roots•Wild Roots?
