ELEMENTARY TEACHER HIGHLY CAPABLE

GRADE DESCRIPTION
The 4th/5th Grade Hi-Cap teacher position is focused on providing quality education to students in a supportive and equitable environment. The teacher will be responsible for creating a student•centered learning experience that promotes excellence and community involvement, ensuring that all students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. A highly•capable teacher works with students who demonstrate exceptional abilities in one or more areas. The teacher provides specialized instruction, develop challenging curricula, and create learning environments that cater to the unique needs of gifted learners. They focus on nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while also supporting the students' social and emotional development.
QUALIFICATIONS
 Valid Washington State teacher's certificate appropriate to elementary level; evidence of Highly Qualified status to teach Elementary Education.  Enjoy working with children of all ability levels, characteristics, and unique personalities.  Experience with instruction appropriate for Highly Capable students in reading, writing and math.  Understanding and application of strategies necessary to instruct Highly Capable students beyond the general education curriculum in grades 4th/5th.  Understanding of highly capable student's social/emotional needs.  Willingness to teach through an integrated model with a project-based focus.  Ability to collect and analyze a variety of assessment data, including pre-assessments as a means to direct individualized instruction.  Strong ability and desire to work cohesively and productively with families.  Collaborate effectively and professionally with colleagues.  Advanced preparation is required and must be evident.  Training in working with Highly Capable students.  Evidence of recent successful experience working with highly capable students in a creative environment.  Evidence of recent course work in areas of reading/language arts, math and writing for highly capable students.  Curriculum integration experience and ability to work with a team of teachers in creating and implementing new curricular programs.  Evidence of successful communication with school staff, parents and students.  Evidence of successful experience of planning for and implementation of elementary classroom instruction.  Understanding of Common Core State Standards and how to expand to a deeper level the grade level standards for Highly Capable students in Grades 4th/5th.  Understanding of the specific emotional and academic needs of highly capable students.  Willingness to participate in parent meetings beyond the workday.  Training and/or experience using computers as an instructional tool.  Experience in administering various tests•MAP, SBAC, DIBELS, STAR, and other curriculum assessments using a rubric, etc.  Evidence of successful utilization of positive classroom management strategies and willingness to adhere to building-wide discipline plan.  Punctual and consistent attendance. This is an on-site working position
