Job Description
Under the supervision of the Museum Services Manager, the incumbent is responsible for understanding, distilling, and transmitting information from the MPMRC to the public. The candidate will develop and lead tours and special programs as they relate to museum exhibits, research programs, and cultural history. Educators will engage the public through programs aimed at critical thinking and with detailed knowledge of current issues and events in Indian Country; command of these skills and information will be key to customer satisfaction. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (with coursework in history, anthropology, museum studies, ethnic studies or similar fields) required and/or comparable knowledge and experience. Must possess strong verbal and communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and work closely with a range of visitors including K-12 groups, college students, adult tours and international guests. Knowledge and living experience of North American Native history and culture, particularly of the Northeast is preferred. Demonstrating special skills such as story-telling, arts/crafts, performing art is encouraged. Required to work with Museum Services Associates. Experience in customer service a plus. This position requires flexibility in the work schedule, which includes holidays, weekends, and irregular days off.
