Museum Experience Coordinator The Museum Experience Coordinator (MEC) connects visitors to their sense of wonder and curiosity through initial moments of "wow" while also encouraging deeper understanding. This role independently oversees WonderLab's birthday party program, while collaborating closely with the Museum Experience department to support all visitor-facing operations. Highlights include facilitating hands-on science demonstrations, providing customer service at the front desk, and representing WonderLab at community events.Position Details Status:
Full-time (40 hours per week), with weekend and occasional evening hours (Fair Labor Standards Act category: "non-exempt"). This position is primarily on-site with some local travel for community events.Reports to:

$18.25-19.25 per hour (estimated $38,000-40,000 annually)START DATE

Tuesday-Saturday, flexing to Wednesday-Sunday based on organizational needs. Key Responsibilities Oversee and Coordinate Birthday Party Program Oversee scheduling, supply inventory, budgeting, reporting, and promotion of the birthday party program. Host birthday parties and provide an outstanding experience; including basic customer service, party protocols, science activities, and ways to engage birthday visitors by actively promoting a curiosity about science within the framework of inquiry and playful learning. Hire, train, and supervise birthday party interns to support the birthday party program as party hosts. Research and develop new science activities for birthday parties. Staff Visitor Services Welcome Desk Provide excellent customer service and relay up to date information to visitors. Answer the telephone and respond to visitor comments and complaints. Use point of sale software to sell admissions, memberships, and gift store items. Manage cash control and daily deposits with accuracy. Provide shopping expertise for visitors, restock inventory, and assist the gift store manager as needed. Serve as Floor Manager on regularly scheduled shifts Engage visitors at exhibits and activities by actively promoting a curiosity about science, and encouraging inquiry-based science and playful learning. Facilitate group visit logistics during scheduled times. Assist with birthday party events and evening facility rental events, as needed. Provide a welcoming first impression to WonderLab visitors by maintaining a neat and orderly appearance of the museum; address gallery maintenance and safety issues. Open the museum and prepare galleries at the start of day; oversee shut down at close. Engage volunteers during scheduled floor shifts and programs. Community Engagement Coordinate tabling efforts at community events including booth reservations and staff scheduling. Represent WonderLab at community events. Maintain inventory of promotional materials and educational supplies. Additional Departmental Responsibilities• Implement safety, emergency, and lost child procedures, and be prepared to perform fire alarm specialist responsibilities outlined in WonderLab's Emergency Action Plan in all roles. Ensure that WonderLab's safety policies are continuously being met. Attend regular department meetings as scheduled. Comply with all administrative policies and procedures described in the employee handbook. 2-4 years of experience engaging youth and/or families through activities, presentations, tours, or similar. Experience providing customer service in person and via telephone or email. Basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, cloud based software, such as Google Drive) with ability to learn and use point-of-sale software. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small, cross-functional team in a high-energy environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Red Cross certification in CPR and First Aid, or willingness to become certified. Willingness to work most weekends and occasional evenings. An affinity for science, education and community. Preferred Qualifications (Optional but Helpful) Retail experience, including point of sale software. Experience with community outreach, public engagement, or classroom management. Basic design experience using templates in tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Experience managing or regularly working with volunteers. Basic administrative experience, including inventory, budget, and revenue management. Physical Requirements Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role. Strong visual and oral communication abilities are required. The position involves prolonged periods of standing and walking as well as sitting and computer use (e.g., 5 hours). The role requires the ability to climb stairs, ladders, and the museum climbing structure. The role involves lifting and transporting equipment & supplies (up to ~25 lbs.), reaching high shelving, and occasional local travel. Access to personal or public transportation for local duties is required. If needed, wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth for extended periods of time (e.g., five hours).
