Museum Educator Duration :
Year-round Schedule:
Mondays and Tuesdays, 8:45 am - 2:00 pm, some Thursday's 4:30-8:30 pm, some Saturdays 9:45am-2:00pm.
Reports to:
Manager of Education Position Overview Museum Educators at Akron Children's Museum facilitate engaging, hands-on educational experiences for visitors, school groups, and community members. They lead field trips, workshops, and programs that align with the museum's mission to inspire play, exploration, and discovery. As enthusiastic ambassadors of learning, Museum Educators ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all guests.
Key Responsibilities Program Facilitation:
Lead hands-on educational programs, field trips, and workshops in STEM, arts, and community themes
Visitor Engagement:
Interact with guests to encourage exploration, inquiry-based learning, and imaginative play
Curriculum Implementation:
Deliver pre-designed lesson plans and adapt activities to audience needs and engagement levels
Group Management:
Guide student groups and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment
Material Preparation & Cleanup:
Set up, organize, and maintain program supplies, materials, and activity spaces
Collaboration:
Work closely with the education team, volunteers, and museum staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable visitor experience
Inclusivity & Accessibility:
Create a safe and welcoming environment for all learners, incorporating best practices for diverse learning styles and abilities Support a culture of teamwork , clear communication, and respect while upholding the museum's mission and values Support the museum by working (2) special event shifts per calendar year, outside of typically scheduled hours Qualifications Background in education, child development, museum studies, or related fields Experience working with children in educational, museum, or informal learning settings Strong communication and public speaking skills Enthusiasm for hands-on, play-based learning Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Comfortable managing groups of up to 20 students in active, high-energy environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with inquiry-based or informal education methods Familiarity with STEM, arts, or early childhood education Occasional availability on
