Job Summary:
You will perform a range of archaeological tasks on projects across the Pacific Northwest. HRA works on a variety of projects, including those supporting local infrastructure, renewable energy, habitat restoration, and more. Check out our website for a sample of our projects. You:
  • Think on your feet and adapt quickly to changing field conditions.
  • Approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Balance work schedules and other demands.
  • Conduct fieldwork using appropriate field techniques. This can include walking up to several miles per day in challenging terrain; hand-digging shovel probes and excavation units; lifting and pushing/pulling up to 40 pounds; and working in a broad range of temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Effectively conduct research activities.
  • Build positive relationships and help resolve issues constructively.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication to listen and communicate with others.
  • Are open to feedback and continuously improving your skills.
You bring:
  • A Bachelor's degree in archaeology or anthropology.
  • Extensive field experience will also be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree; enrolled students nearing graduation (typically within one semester) will also be considered.
  • Completion of an accredited field school or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • The field school will preferably be university-based and completed for academic credit and must entail at least 4+ weeks of intensive, hands-on education in archaeological excavation techniques resulting in learned skills such as digging and screening, artifact and feature identification, soil recordation, mapping, documentation, etc.
You also have:
  • Proficiency in the use of computer programs and database systems.
  • Familiarity with the operations and use of cameras, GPS, and GIS equipment and software.
This is a field-forward role. You'll spend most of your time working on projects across the region, with some office or lab opportunities depending on your interests and experience.
