JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The School of Visual Arts (SoVA) invites applications for Gallery Coordinator to partner with our diverse and vibrant community of artists. A studio art background with experience installing art works of all media including but not limited to painting, sculpture, ceramics, digital, mixed, and immersive media. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for Zoller Gallery, Patterson Gallery, and the Humpday Gallery within SoVA as well as other exhibiting spaces across Penn State's University Park Campus, currently including Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, Center for the Performing Arts, and Café Laura. This is a part-time position for up to 24 hours per week with a starting wage of $30 per hour.
Duties include:
Exhibition planning and coordination
  • Prepare exhibition calendars in coordination with SoVA staff, faculty, and students
  • Produce and promote calls for entry
  • Communicate expectations, timelines, and available resources to exhibitors including artwork delivery and return
  • Organize and manage submissions
  • Coordinate with jurors, guest curators, and student groups as required
  • Facilitate exhibition configurations
  • Coordinate with SoVA staff to promote exhibitions and events
  • Maintain inventory gallery installation supplies, ordering materials as necessary in conjunction with the shop manager and SoVA office
  • Arrange receptions, artist talks, and special events with the SoVA staff Gallery Operations
  • Provide clean, organized, and professional gallery spaces
  • Direct installation and deinstallation of 2D, 3D, and digital artwork including labeling and lighting artwork
  • Design and install vinyl wall signage
  • Troubleshoot installation issues
  • Patch and paint walls
  • Maintain lighting, display furniture and gallery seating Staff management and training
  • Schedule and supervise part-time undergraduate and graduate student staff to cover gallery hours, installation, and events
  • Provide training for employees, as necessary Requirements and Qualifications

Additional interactions and creative partnerships take place across the College with the Arts & Design Research Incubator (ADRI), the Borland Project Space (BPS), and the Center for Pedagogy in Arts and Design (C-PAD). The School also benefits from proximity to The Palmer Museum of Art, and is part of the Campus Arts Initiative, a project extending across all Penn State campuses.
