2 days ago Job Description Position is located in Sioux Falls, SD. Why Join Our Team The Siouxland Heritage Museums invite applications for a part-time Museum Aide to assist in all facets of operation of the Siouxland Heritage Museums, a joint county-city museum system which includes the Old Courthouse Museum, the Pettigrew Museum, and the Irene Hall Museum Resource Center. We are dedicated to preserving Minnehaha County heritage and providing an enriching experience for our community. Museum Aides are an essential part of our team and contribute to the operation of the museums by assisting with collections management, exhibits, educational programming, and special events as well as providing excellent customer service to guests visiting the museums. Museum Aides maintain part-time schedules, primarily on Thursday evenings and weekends, to keep our museums accessible for guests seven days a week, while also providing invaluable support for special events. Impact Engage and Educate:
Greet museum guests, introduce them to the museum and answer questions. Assist in
Tours, Programs, Events, and Store Operations:
Help with guiding tours and public programming to enhance our guests' understanding of our collections. Assist with setup, monitoring, and breakdown of special events hosted at the museum. Open and operate museum store for guests wanting to make purchases.
Effective Communication:
Direct telephone, mail, and personal inquiries to appropriate staff members to ensure prompt assistance.
Security Functions:
Perform a variety of security functions, including monitoring galleries and halls, opening and locking the building, setting alarms, observing cameras, and relaying messages and alerts.
Exhibit and Research Assistance:
Aid Museum staff with exhibit design, artifact changes and light construction. Conduct research for museum exhibits. Prepare educational and promotional materials to engage our guests.
Clerical Tasks:
Handle various clerical tasks that keep our museums running smoothly. What You Need to Succeed in this Role High school diploma or GED and one year of general office or public contact work. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of valid driver's license and must maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, and the public. Commitment to maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor.
