Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of MINI SOTA, responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial sustainability of the organization. This role requires a visionary, collaborative, and community-focused leader who can guide the museum's growth and impact. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help create a productive, positive, and harmonious work environment.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee and Manage Activities of
MINI SOTA
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic plan and initiatives that fulfill the museum's mission and increase public awareness.
  • Direct all museum operations, including exhibit development, education and public programming, communications, and staffing with support of the BOD.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team that fosters collaboration and innovation.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively to empower volunteers and staff and align efforts with MINI SOTA's mission.
  • Lead, manage, and evaluate the leadership team to ensure accountability and performance.
  • Develop the annual budget in partnership with the Finance Committee for BOD approval each December.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility across all departments.
  • Keep the BOD informed of operational and organizational matters through regular meetings and reports. Community Engagement & Advocacy
  • Develop and secure new partnerships annually to support the museum's mission and manage and nurture ongoing strategic partnerships.
  • Advocate for Children's Museum by networking with nonprofit leaders locally and statewide through the Greater Minnesota Children's Museum Coalition
  • Strengthen community relationships to ensure
MINI SOTA
serves diverse, disadvantaged, and marginalized populations.
  • Represent the museum at community events and public forums.
  • Host stakeholder events to engage supporters and partners.
  • Maintain a collaborative and transparent relationship with the BOD.
  • Oversee public relations and marketing strategies to enhance the museum's visibility.
  • Develop and implement a communications plan to raise the museum's profile. Lead Operating Fund Development
  • Lead and oversee all fundraising initiatives and donor engagement activities.
  • Manage all aspects of grant research, writing, reporting, and compliance; report outcomes to the BOD.
  • Collaborate with the Development Committee to create fundraising strategies targeting foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
  • Coordinate and communicate fundraising plans and events with the BOD.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with key funders and donors.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Be aware of what is going on and respond appropriately. Speak, see, hear, and appropriately respond to others at all times. Use telephones, computers, and related technologies to send and receive calls, emails and create documents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Spend much of the day sitting at a desk. Able to bend, kneel, stretch, and reach above head at times. Stand for short periods of time. Lift and carry up to 10 pounds, using proper lifting and carrying techniques. Able to go up and down steps. Dexterity to use a computer keyboard, other computer components and other office equipment most of the day. Able to work longer hours if needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Indoor office space and various areas around the Children's Museum. Some activities (i.e., Fundraisers, Community or Advocacy Events) may be located outside.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
Travel will be required for training, fundraising, events, and promotion of the museum.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, education, museum studies, agriculture, or a related field Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, museum, or educational setting. Must have strong computer experience and able to use various computer programs, e.g., point of sales, membership databases, etc. Proven success in risk management, volunteer systems, and strategic planning. Passion for children's education, agriculture, and community service.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Driver's License and current valid vehicle insurance
