Description of Work This Administrative position provides the Director of Regional History Museums (DRHM) vital support in the management of the Mountain Gateway Museum. Responsibilities involve overseeing interpretation of and ensuring compliance with, all applicable Local, State, Federal, Departmental, Divisional, and professional regulations; Budget management, inventory control, and purchasing; Supervision of personnel; Security and safety of buildings, staff, and collections; Analyzing and solving technical problems; Recommending formulation or revision of policies and procedures; Advising on allocation of funds and effectiveness of operations; Frequent public contacts and attendance at meetings, and generally, promoting the Mountain Gateway Museum. Position reports to the Director of Regional History Museums. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Management of museum staff and overall operations.
  • Serves on leadership team of 7 regional site managers to support divisional strategy & planning
  • Oversees budget for the museum with the DRHM and Division Budget Officer.
  • Oversight of facilities and their needs.

Recruitment Range:

Position/Physical Requirements Must have the ability to do light work including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work inside and outside in various weather conditions. This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCR's Telework Policy.

Section/Unit Description Mountain Gateway Museum (MGM), a section of the North Carolina Museum of History Division, promotes the understanding of regional history and culture, and their relationship to the world at large, for the benefit of visitors and residents. Through its Exhibit Outreach Program (EOP), collections management, interpretive exhibits, and public events, MGM encourages the preservation and understanding of local, state, and regional history for future generations. Division Description The North Carolina Museum of History Division promotes the understanding of the history and material culture of North Carolina for the educational benefit of North Carolinians. Through collections and historical Interpretation, its museums encourage citizens and visitors to explore and understand the past; to reflect on their lives and their place in history; and to preserve state, regional, and local history for future generations.
