Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive and primary strategist for Kendall Whittier Main Street, advancing the organization's mission through the Main Street America™ Four‑Point Approach. Employed by and accountable to the Board of Directors, the ED manages daily operations, financial planning, and program execution. As the public face of the organization, the ED builds strong partnerships and champions Kendall Whittier's revitalization efforts. A key priority of this role is resource development—leading fundraising through grants, sponsorships, and donor engagement, and equipping Board members to participate meaningfully in fundraising efforts—to ensure long‑term sustainability and community impact. Range of Duties to be
Performed:
Organization (Management, Administration & Partnerships)
  • Oversee all administrative functions, including purchasing, recordkeeping, budgeting, and accounting.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to the Oklahoma Main Street Program, the National Main Street Center and the City of Tulsa.
  • Develop and maintain Main Street-formatted data systems to track program progress.
  • Support and coordinate KWMS committees and task forces, ensuring effective communication and implementation of work plans.
  • Supervise temporary staff and professional consultants and participate in project evaluations.
  • Serve as an advocate for the Kendall Whittier community and the KWMS program.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with public, private, and nonprofit partners at local and state levels.
Promotion (Marketing, Events & Public Awareness)
  • Develop and conduct public awareness and education initiatives to advance understanding of the Main Street Program's goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate speaking engagements, media interviews, and public appearances.
  • Work closely with local media to maximize coverage of Kendall Whittier activities and initiatives.
  • Assist task forces with producing community events, seasonal festivals, and promotional activities.
  • Maintain design excellence in promotional efforts to project a high‑quality community image. Design (Historic Preservation & Physical Improvements)
  • Assist tenants and property owners with physical improvement projects through consultation.
  • Coordinate and supervise professional design consultants as needed.
  • Support historic preservation principles and quality design standards throughout the district.
  • Promote design excellence to enhance the physical appearance of the Kendall Whittier area.
  • Coordinate and lead project management for the Oklahoma Main Street Incentive Program and other design projects.
  • Assist the Kendall Whittier Improvement District (KWID) board with project management and asset maintenance and repairs. Economic Vitality (Business Development & Investment)
  • Develop transformation strategies in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Base strategies on historic preservation and effective use of community human and economic resources.
  • Recruit new tenants and property owners into the district.
  • Support the reimagining and reuse of vacant or underutilized properties.
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including grants, sponsorships, and donor engagement, to support long‑term sustainability.
  • Check in with property owners and tenants to maintain a vibrant, active district.
The Executive Director will demonstrate a strong commitment to the missions of Kendall Whittier Main Street and the Oklahoma Main Street Program, with a passion for neighborhood-based revitalization, proven leadership, and strong relationship‑building skills.
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with at least three years of nonprofit management experience, including leading outcomes‑based organizations and implementing strategies that drive organizational growth.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage operational strategies, budgets, and high‑performing teams.
  • Strong experience working effectively with a board of directors and cultivating productive board relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing, public relations, and fundraising, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and cultures.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, with experience engaging the Hispanic community.
  • Commitment to high‑quality programming and data‑driven evaluation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive, collaborative, and adaptable leader.
  • Action‑oriented, entrepreneurial, and innovative approach to planning and problem‑solving.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and in multidisciplinary environments.
  • High level of integrity, initiative, and mission‑driven focus with a positive and self‑directed work style.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, accounting software, Google Suite, Slack. Adobe Creative Suite proficiency a plus.
  • Experience managing an Oklahoma Main Street Program a plus
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel as needed
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
