Position Summary :

Our Museum Associates are responsible for opening and closing the museum, greeting visitors when they arrive, and answering any questions they may have. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help foster a welcoming environment where visitors of all ages can explore, learn, and connect with history. This paid position offers a unique opportunity to develop skills in museum operations, public engagement, and educational outreach while contributing to the preservation of our shared cultural heritage. The museum has a small gift shop where associates will handle the sale of merchandise as well as collecting admission fees. Having an interest in history and a general knowledge of The American Civil War, Winchester and the Shenandoah Valley are requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a docent's role at the front desk answering questions and orienting guests on the history of the site. Greet visitors warmly and provide customer service to ensure a positive museum experience for all guests. Opening and closing the Museum at the start and end of each day. Working the cash register. Taking in payments for gift shop purchases and museum admissions. Help maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of exhibit spaces and storage areas.

Qualifications:

Strong communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and confidently in front of diverse audiences. Organized. Attention to detail. Enthusiasm when talking to the public. Reliable. Neat business like appearance. Research skills for gathering information to enrich exhibits and programs. Must have a general knowledge of the American Civil War as well as the history of Winchester and the Shenandoah Valley throughout the conflict. Must be able to operate a cash register.
