The Choir Director is responsible for leading vocal music education and performance programs for both Junior High and Senior High students. This includes teaching music theory and vocal techniques in the classroom, preparing students for concerts, festivals, and competitions, and fostering a love of music while promoting student growth, confidence, and teamwork.Essential Duties:
Instructional Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a standards-based choral music curriculum for grades 7-12. Teach vocal performance, music literacy, sight-reading, and music theory. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Create a positive, inclusive classroom that encourages musical growth and creativity. Integrate music technology where appropriate (e.g., SmartMusic, SightReadingFactory).Program Leadership & Events:
Direct school choirs and ensembles at both junior high and senior high levels. Plan and conduct school concerts, assemblies, and public performances. Prepare students for region/district/state choral festivals and solo/ensemble competitions (e.g., All-Region/All-State Choir). Manage choir uniforms, music library, and performance logistics.Student Development & Support:
Encourage student participation and leadership within the music program. Foster an environment of collaboration, teamwork, and artistic discipline. Support social-emotional development through positive teacher-student relationships.Professional Collaboration:
Work with other fine arts teachers and district staff to promote interdisciplinary learning. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and events. Attend professional development, staff meetings, and required district trainings.Administrative & Supervisory Duties:
Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance. Coordinate fundraising efforts and manage the choir program budget (if applicable). Supervise students during travel and off-campus performances. Adhere to school board policies, building procedures, and Arkansas Department of Education standards. Other duties as assignedQualifications:
Experience directing school choirs and preparing students for adjudicated events. Strong piano proficiency and ability to accompany students during rehearsal. Effective classroom management and organizational skills. Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and inspiring musical excellence.Physical Demands:
