At Music in the Schools Foundation (MIS), we pride ourselves in providing stellar music instruction to students in underserved communities. Founded in 1995, MIS is dedicated to inspiring children and youth to participate in music as a fundamental part of their education. At no cost to the district or to the students, MIS provides music instruction in Pre-K through 8th grade in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. Over the years, MIS has brought ukulele, orchestra at the middle school level, general music in elementary schools, and preschool music classes. MIS offers after-school programs including string ensemble with violin, viola, and cello and after-school international folk dancing. These programs provide additional performance opportunities for our students. Our teachers offer inspiring instruction in a supportive environment, where students are encouraged to experience the joy of music while developing music literacy. A strong music program supports academic success and Music in the Schools Foundation works tirelessly to help students achieve that success.
You:
Are an experienced music teacher who believes that music education should be for all students, not just those who can afford it Are an accomplished music teacher with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience and/or performing experience. Have experience teaching group classes with up to 20 students Enjoy working with students in in grades 3-5 Have experience working in diverse communities Are a go-getter and you're passionate about teaching Want to join a fantastic team of teachers!
Responsibilities:
Teach violin classes to students in grades 3-5 Teach beginning students to play the violin with proper posture and technique, learn basic rhythm and note reading, and include activities related to learning about music. Ability to teach a group of beginning students in grades 3-5 Develop and prepare lesson plans that engage, encourage, and motivate students Provide a creative and fun environment For this position, the candidate must play the violin and teach using a clear method. Instruments are provided for each student and music can be purchased or used from your collection. The Position This part time position is approximately 4 hours per week during the school year and for the 4 week summer program. Pending funding, summer hours may increase. Classes meet after school at KIPP Valiant Community Prep in East Menlo Park and at East Palo Alto Charter School in East Palo Alto Each class is one hour long and occur between 3:15-5:30pm on mutually agreed upon days (Monday-Friday) Please note this is an

program This position reports to the Program Director Required Music Degree At least 2 years of experience directing violin to students in grades 3-5 Reliable transportation Punctuality Dependability Attention to detail Extremely organized Some additional days for performances will be required Excellent classroom management Access to a device to play music (phone or device with external speaker) Availability between the hours of 3:00-4:45pm on 2 afternoons per week.
