Job Description

Description Cathedral High School, a Lasallian, all-boys Catholic high school serving grades 9-12 in Downtown Los Angeles, is seeking a part-time Choir Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. At Cathedral, we are committed to forming young men of faith, purpose, and leadership. We seek an educator who is passionate about music education and dedicated to supporting the artistic, academic, and personal growth of our students.
Position Details:
Teach one section of choir and an optional section of English Direct and develop a student vocal ensemble for performances throughout the school year: A Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, Graduation and a few Mass performances.
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 9:55-11:05am. There are occasionally special schedules. Cathedral High School is a 1:1 iPad school, integrating technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Requirements Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) Previous high school choir or vocal music teaching experience preferred Experience directing choirs and preparing students for concerts, festivals, and performances Ability to play piano. Ability to engage and support high school boys in a Catholic/Lasallian school environment Strong classroom management and rehearsal leadership skills Experience with lesson planning, vocal pedagogy, music assessment, and maintaining an accurate gradebook (e.g., PowerSchool) Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying musical backgrounds Strong communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues Commitment to the mission of Catholic education and willingness to participate in school community life
Responsibilities & Professional Expectations:
Direct school choir performances, concerts, assemblies, and other special events Provide academic and artistic support through office hours and regular communication with students regarding their progress Serve as a moderator/advisor, fostering community, brotherhood, and student growth Collaborate with counselors, administration, campus ministry, and families to support students' academic and personal development Model and promote Lasallian values: faith, respect, responsibility, and service Participate in department meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and support student success Contribute to school life through assemblies, community-building activities, and co-curricular programs (e.g., athletics, clubs, performing arts events) Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
