Our teachers are dedicated to their craft, bringing quality instruction to students who would otherwise have no access to music classes like the ones we offer. We focus on engaging students, including music from their culture and others around the world to allow them to celebrate their differences and to find common ground. In this role you would be teaching general music in grades TK-grade 4. The position is approximately 3.5 hours a week on one or two mutually agreed upon day(s). There is a possibility of teaching chorus and/or recorder for 2-4 additional hours after school as well. We have just begun a chorus and will be building it up as we go. We have also offered recorder. The grade level(s) for this class may vary for the 2026-27 school year.
Minimum Qualifications Required Group Teaching:
2+ years of experience leading music classes with 15+ children at once.
Classroom Management:
Proven ability to manage behavior and keep large groups of kids engaged.
Curriculum Design:
Experience planning weekly music lessons for entire elementary grade levels.
Music Methods:
Familiarity with elementary music frameworks like Orff, Kodály, or Dalcroze. Degree in music education, or a related field with teaching experience.
No Private Lessons Only:
One-on-one studio teaching experience does not qualify for this role.
No Solo Performers Only:
Gigging and stage performance experience do not replace classroom management skills. Responsibilities Following state standards, the successful candidate would teach general music in grades TK- grade 4. Kodály method is preferred but not required. Please note that we do not have Orff instruments but do have a collection of small percussion. Teach age appropriate songs from many cultures and in different languages when possible Through singing, playing, listening, and moving, students will learn musical concepts including but not limited to dynamics, tempo, form, and timbre. Ability to teach a group of beginning students in grades TK- grade 4 Develop and prepare lesson plans that engage, encourage, and motivate students Provide a creative and fun environment For this position, a pleasant singing voice and use of an instrument like guitar, ukulele, autoharp is required as there is not always a piano available Have a Bluetooth speaker to play music on a phone, computer, or other device. Small percussion instruments are provided if needed Additional requirements Knowledge and experience with low income students and the communities where live Reliable transportation Punctuality Dependability Attention to detail Extremely organized Some additional days for performances will be required Upon Hiring Successful candidate must pass a comprehensive criminal background check Eligibilty to work in the United States Proof of current TB test Proof of vaccination against Covid-19
Salary:
