Job Description

Bucketeers is a mobile (you'll drive to our school partner locations) music enrichment program (often after-school) designed mostly for pre-K through 6th grade. We're looking for teachers, not only near San Jose, but also in Morgan Hill and Fremont/Milpitas. Our instructional framework involves developing a foundation in rhythm, playing with a steady pulse, learning a variety of patterns, participating in movement activities, and developing hand-eye coordination, all while having fun. Students play along with a diverse set of music: children's, pop, rock, jazz, and multi-genre songs in several languages incorporating beats and patterns from around the world. Each class doubles as a rehearsal building towards a likely end-of-semester performance in front of friends and family. Our instructors are provided with the necessary training and support to manage classroom activities with confidence. Clear and consistent communication between instructors, parents, and school staff allows for everyone involved to be on the same page. Positive energy and enthusiasm are important ingredients for teachers to create an ideal learning environment. Instructors can expect to teach two to five days per week often — but not always — between the hours of 2 to 5 PM. The exact pay per hour depends on the enrollment at each school. Bucketeers instructors are energetic and passionate about music and teach percussion to young children. Teachers are required to think on their feet and multi-task as they implement instruction at an entertaining and fast-moving pace.
Minimum Requirements:
Two-year college degree or higher. (Currently pursuing a college degree also works.) Experience in early childhood education. Experience in teaching music classes to groups of children. Proficient writing skills and the capacity to learn/use a newsletter software similar to Mailchimp. Mastery of one or more musical instruments (Professional drum set/percussion experience is optimal . Musical theater and/or dance experience is beneficial.) Semester long commitment.
NOTE:
A passed LiveScan background check and TB test will be needed. An Early Childhood certification (ECE accreditation) is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Attend and complete three or more hours of paid trainings/shadowing on the innovative Bucketeers instructional framework. Teach two or more classes per week. Sessions are eight to 15 weeks long. Load in, set up, and pack up equipment at partner school locations. Clearly communicate with school staff, parents, and Bucketeers administration. A weekly newsletter is crafted and sent home after each class. Maintain professionalism and handle behavioral issues in a positive way.
NOTE:
Please only apply if you live in the Bay Area and close surrounding areas. This is a part-time job, so relocation is not applicable. The job will start in September but training will begin soon after you're hired.
