Job Description

Middle and High School Reports To:
Middle School and High School Principal
SUMMARY OF POSITION, FUNCTION, AND DUTIES
Under the Middle School Principal's direction, the teacher is assigned to fulfill the mission of Sarasota Christian School which is to equip students with a love for Christ, a passion to learn, the courage to lead, and a commitment to serve. The school administration may assign additional duties or specify other functions needed as may be appropriate for specific faculty posts.
  • Teach music and Choir courses to middle and high school students, ensuring an understanding of fundamental and advanced music and choral techniques, including tone production, rhythm, intonation, and musical interpretation.
  • Direct and conduct choir rehearsals for different levels of ensembles (e.g., concert choir, praise and worship choir, small ensembles).
  • Prepare students for school concerts, community performances, competitions, and festivals.
  • Select appropriate repertoire that is educational, challenging, and engaging for students.
  • Maintain and manage school-owned instruments, sheet music, and other music equipment.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and booster programs to support the choir program.
  • Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and parents to promote the importance of music education.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of students for the choir program.
  • Plan and oversee trips, including competitions, festivals, and community performances, ensuring student safety and logistical success.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with the school's Christian values and academic standards.
  • Willingness to participate in chapels, school events, extracurricular activities, and assist with the student worship team.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including various learning styles and academic levels.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, tests, projects, and presentations, providing timely feedback.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to meet individual and ensemble needs.
  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and spiritual growth.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and overall development.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as required.
  • Uphold the school's mission, vision, and values in all aspects of the teaching role.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS PERSONAL BELIEF & BEHAVIOR
  • Must be a born-again Christian whose lifestyle and character demonstrate obedience to God and the Bible and express agreement with the school's doctrinal viewpoints, statement of faith, and Christian lifestyle requirements.
  • Must be able to serve as a positive Christian role model to others in the school context.
  • Must be able to accept and support the school's core beliefs, statement of faith, and doctrine.
  • Must have an understanding of and commitment to SCS's educational objectives and philosophy of education.
  • Must possess sufficient biblical knowledge that enables the individual to integrate Scripture into subjects taught, sports coached, or other job duties assigned, thus imparting to students a biblical worldview position.
  • Must faithfully attend a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the statement of faith and doctrine of this school.
  • Must affirm that he/she believes that working and ministering in this Christian school would be pleasing to God, would be consistent with his/her purpose in life, and would be good stewardship of his/her time, talent, and professional abilities.
  • Must enjoy working with young people.
PROFESSIONAL
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree in education or in the content area. Graduate degrees desirable.
  • Must possess a valid teaching certificate (private accrediting agency or state licensure).
  • Must have excellent knowledge of subject matter and be effective in teaching and maintaining appropriate classroom discipline.
  • Previous teaching experience (1 to 3+ years preferred)
  • Proficiency in a variety of choral formats and conducting techniques.
  • All continuing SCS teachers must maintain current teacher certification to be considered for a new contract.
INDIVIDUAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Superior interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Possess physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of this position and specific assignments.
  • Proficiency in computer and technology applications necessary for this position.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use the English language correctly.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated.
  • Effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to schedule changes.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion.
  • Be an enthusiastic follower of Jesus Christ.
