High School Band Teacher (Hoover) - See Description Des Moines Public School District - 3.5 Des Moines, IA Job Details Full-time $50,569 - $83,640 a year 12 hours ago Qualifications Teaching Certification Full Job Description DMPS is currently looking for a high school band teacher to begin in Fall 2026 at the following locations: Hoover High School This position is full-time, but only serves as band director at Hoover for half of the time. For the other half of the position, this role serves as individual and ensemble lesson support for band students at Meredith Middle School (located down the hall from Hoover in an adjoining building).

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS
Required:
Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment). Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods. Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
Desired:
Previous classroom teaching experience. Experience in an urban school district.
BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children's academic and social-emotional needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students' individual needs and ensure growth. Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students. Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments. Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction. Communicate with families on a regular basis. Participate in professional development. Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(for every DMPS position): Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
